Okay, this is actually destined to be another signature cocktail, but I haven’t found the right booze combination yet so I’m posting the non alcoholic version. I love trying different herbs and fruits, and the purple basil darkens the color of the strawberries to this beautiful burgundy color. The purple basil is also more anise-y than the green variety, so it blends really nicely with the fruit. I tried it mixed with tequila but it was just okay. I think vodka would be the perfect mixer, or just sweeten it up a little more and serve it as a fancy limeade. It would also make great popsicles for the kids (without the vodka 🙂 ) Again, proportions are approximate and to taste.
fresh strawberries, hulled
juice of 3 limes
handful purple basil leaves
agave nectar
water
Blend it all up and strain. Adjust water and agave to taste, serve over ice or your choice of spirit! Let me know if you try it and discover a good mixer!
I love Aqua Fresca and strawberries are always my favorite flavor. Can’t wait to try this! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Yum! This sounds great! And I think your adult version sounds great too. have you tried rum with this? Or how about cachaca? With all of that lime juice, and the agave, I think the flavors may go well as a variation on a caipirinha.
Great ideas! Thanks!
Maybe an orange flavored vodka?
I tried it with silver tequila and triple sec and it was spectacular! Thanks for the idea of using some orange flavor, it was great.
Yum! and I will try the popsicles too!
I think vodka would work well, or even rum. Looks refreshing, and I love the purple basil garnish!
That looks SO good!
