This is a recipe my brother gave me. I am a huge fan of ginger, of chai, and of turmeric. All of which are supposed to enhance health and well-being during the cold, damp winter months. Whether or not this tea is the elixir of life that I think it is, it tastes really great. The proportions are just rough estimates – adjust as you see fit. I like a good burn from the ginger, so if you want a milder flavor, use a lot less!
1 C water
1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
1 tsp grated fresh tumeric
2.5 C 1% milk
2 tbsp honey
3 teabags decaf black tea (I think this is about 3 tsp)
1 tbsp chopped fresh mint
Grate ginger and turmeric into a small saucepan and add water. Bring to a boil. Add honey and stir. Add milk and bring back to a boil. Watch closely, or it will boil over. Turn off heat and stir in black tea and mint. Allow to steep for 5-15 minutes. Strain and serve!
